In today's medical environment, there is tremendous demand for nurses and other health care professionals.
Staff shortages often leave hospitals understaffed and some hospitals have been forced to close.
Even when there are more than enough practicing physicians in a community, there may not be enough nurses or other health care professionals to carry out all the medical tasks necessary to take care of patients.
This shortage creates an exciting opportunity if you're considering a career in just about any medical field, particularly nursing.
Part of the reason for this shortage of health professionals is that many people simply are not aware of what opportunities are available.
"As an undergraduate student, I remember most people had no idea what career options in the health care industry were available," says Dr. Ronald Sih, director of the RTS Career Center. "Even if you did have a general idea of what the career was like, having seen people work at the local pharmacy, or having observed therapists and nurses during infrequent trips to the hospital setting, most people could not answer the basic career questions that were most important to them."
What does a nurse really do?
This information is essential to know before you can make an informed career decision.
